Our Key Focus
Johnston High School, on the east side of
Austin, is the main community service focus of
the Texas Blazers. Every semester, each
Blazer commits to providing 12 hours of service
in the form of tutoring, school beautification,
special events, mentoring, and college
counseling.
Up to the Challenge
Many students at Johnston are in need of
strong role models, and the Blazers step up to
the plate. By working one-on-one with high-risk
students, we provide educational and social
support in and out of the classroom.
Achieving Results
This past semester (Spring 2006), the Blazers
volunteered over 550
hours at Johnston. Our
efforts can be observed in the many students who
have an increased interest in education and
community awareness.
Texas
Blazers Endowed Scholarship
The Texas Blazers recently made the founding
donation to the Texas Blazers Endowed
Scholarship, to be administered by The
University of Texas at Austin for the benefit of
Johnston High School graduates.
We are one of a select few student organizations
(and the youngest) to sponsor an endowed
scholarship, but we need your support to realize
this dream! Please read more about this
scholarship to the right, and
learn how you can help.
Frisbee Fling
Each spring, the Texas Blazers host
Frisbee Fling, a
Frisbee Golf tournament on the 40 Acres, to
raise money for Johnston High School
scholarships. Participate by signing-up a
team and help deserving students peruse higher
education.
Our work at Johnston is not yet done.
We strive to find ways to enhance the high
school experience of all Johnston students.
Some of our upcoming projects include:
- Professional Luncheon (picture from
Spring 2006)

- ACT Preparation Workshop
- Ice Hockey Games with Mentees
- Student Panels
- Courtyard Beautification (picture
